GENESIS DAY ONE - URBAN CROSS UTILITY

GENESIS DAY ONE is an urban cross utillity bike from GENESIS, the frame is only dedicated to a SingleSpeed use (or with a geared-hub). The first ever Day One is produced in 2001 and is also the first bike developped under Ridgeback brand before GENESIS become officially founded in 2006. It is a small British brand based in the United-Kingdom. They are pretty famous for their steel bikes. Their global range now cover road, mountain, cyclo-cross, gravel, kids and fat bikes.
GENESIS is sponsoring independent riders but it is also the bikes supplier of the Madison Genesis team (UCI Continental level). Madison is their distributor.

The GENESIS DAY ONE is made of Genesis MjölnirDouble-Butted Cromoly (Cromo 4130 designed to Genesis specifications) in replacement of the usual Reynolds 520 that allow the GENESIS DAY ONE to have a good ratio price / equipment without sacrificing performances of the bike. The frame share the exact same geometry (except on the XS) than the mythic adventure bike "Croix de fer" from GENESIS. But the frame of the DAY ONE is only built of Genesis Mjölnir (while most the "Croix de fer" are made of Reynolds 725), and equipped with horizontal dropout meaning you can only mount it as a SingleSpeed or with a geared hub.
The DAY ONE is stable at speed but stay agile in the traffic. The geometry is sportive, so do not expect to be comfortable like a smooth butter even if it is made of steel. The frame geometry is mainly designed for a cross use so it has to stay reactive. And this is the interesting point of the GENESIS DAY ONE , it is versatile : commuting, short adventure bike, cross bike . Use it as a commuter in the week with a rack and fenders, change the tires for Cyclo-Cross profile and ride on the mud in the week end to explore all those small muddy tracks around your house.

GENESIS DAY ONE is available is 3 versions : Day one 10 with a singlespeed transmission, Day one 20 equipped with an NEXUS8 geared hub and the Day One Decade as a singlespeed cross bike.

It is the singlespeed version of the GENESIS DAY ONE designed for urban landscape and well thought to use it as a commuter bike. This is the ideal low maintenance commuter, as all singlespeed the DAY ONE is a pretty simple versatile bike. Equipped with a transmission in 42x17, it is a good average for short climb and flat without "spinning" effect...If you want to use it as a commuter but you do not like to carry your bag in you back, the DAY ONE frame is designed with rack and mudguard mounts.

The unique difference from the DAY ONE 10 is the rear hub. The DAY ONE 20 is equipped with the well-known Shimano Nexus 8 making the bike more comfortable to ride using different gears on undulating landscape. The Nexus 8 will help you to carry moderate loads with more ride comfort. As all DAY ONE, it is rack and fender ready.
