CIELO CROSS RACER - VERSATILE STEEL CYCLOCROSS

CIELO CROSS RACER is an handmade cyclocross machine built in the USA by CIELO. This brand is closely link to CHRIS KING ((hub, headsets Made in USA) because their founder is none other than Chris King himself. The brand was founded in 1978, and at that time its creator was making bicycle frames as many as hubs in the Henderson's bike shop store based in SANTA BARBARA. First frames were mainly racing models with an aggressive geometry to fit cyclists teams needs in the American territory, but re-badged. The brand was putten on hold in the early 1980 because is founder wanted to concentrate his work on the components produced under the name CHRIS KING.

28 years later in 2008, on a whim, a Cielo Framework faithful to the original start of the brand, is welded and then exhibited at The North American Handmade Bicycle Show. The CIELO CROSS RACER / DISC is a cross racer bike available in 2 version : cantilever or disc. Both are built from the same Columbus life steel tubes but they deafer by using specific dropouts. The Cielo Cross Racer features the proprietary vertical Cielo dropouts and the Cielo Cross Racer disc features Paragon’s disc-specific rear dropouts. Headtube from True Temper (USA) is a usual 44mm, ideal for a tapered fork, that welcome the Chris King Inset I7 Headset and Enve™ Carbon Fork CX or CX Disc depending on the chosen version.

The geometry, derived from road bikes with a low headtube, is quite aggressive with a high bottom brackets more than welcome for a cyclocross use (bottom bracket drops 62mm).
According to the website www.velochannel.com which have recently tested the bike in its cantilever version, the cross racer is a bike that fit closely to the trail. A fast bike that only show its limit when the trail is becoming obstructed with roots or rocks...but well it is not a mountain bike and its geometry is derived from roadbikes. Consider the CIELO CROSS RACER primary as a good cyclocross bike but also a versatile machine highly performing on road, pavement, gravel.
