MATTER CYCLES COGFIGHT is a pure road bike proposed by the American handcrafter. Launched in 2012 by Collin Schaafsma, MATTER CYCLES is based in Boulder, Colororado. Collin designs, develops and built himself all its bikes to your size ! Build to last, MATTER BIKES are handmade from very high end US made True Temper steels, Dedacciai, Italian Columbus tubing and air craft grade 4130. The range of bike proposed by MATTER CYCLES is now rich of 6 bikes that are all handmade, bespoke and designed to your needs.
MATTER CYCLES COGFIGHT (COG-FIGHT, there is nice a little play on the name...) is the unique road bike, made of steel, at the catalog of the American handcrafter. It is available as a frame-kit (frame+ Enve+ Headseat+ True Axle) starting at $2300 or as a complete bike starting $4000. This nice machine is disc only.
The COGFIGHT is a pure road-race machine dedicated to race and punchy ride but providing slightly comfort for long hours riding. The geometry and the frame are a mix of a core / bespoke geometry. To keep the mix of punchy/comfort spirit of the frame, MATTER CYCLES keep a core geometry with the following elements : 412mm for the chainstay length (usually 405-415mm on race bike), not to short and certainly not too long that provide a good comfort combine with steel tubes but keep the bike reactive when it is go time. The bottom brackets drop is 70mm, regular on a road bike and provide a good stability. To finish, the head tube have a steep angle with 73.5° that provide a good steering but predictive. Outside of this core geometry, it is bespoke : the length, the thickness and the profile of each tube are designed to fit how you ride, who you are and what you really plan to do with the bike. You can even choose all the braze on the bike.
About the set of steel tubes used to build the MATTER CYCLES COGFIGHT, at the base it is built from Dedacciai Zero steel, but if you are a strong rider or requires a pretty rigid machine, the down tube can be made of an oversized True Temper S3 steel tubes to keep things stiff and strong. The method use to weld the bike is TIG. The frame is disc only and you can choose the type of rear dropouts between 142mm x 12mm thru or 135mm x 10mm QR depending on your way of riding : to discuss with MATTER CYCLES.
Other specs are the following, headtude is 44mm to welcome the ENVE Carbon Fiber Road Fork 2.0 disc with a quick release. Bottom bracket is the most reliable standard : BSA-BSC here in 68mm threaded or the new, and long awaited, but not yet very present on the market (if you feel adventurous for spare parts), T47 developed by Ckrisking and Argonaut Cycles. Regarding the tire clearance (rear) it accept tires up to 700x25. About the paintjob, 1 to 2 colors are included in the price with decals, but if you wish to have a rainbow custom paint for example, then you need to request a quotation.
