MAROSTICANA & BASSANESE are the two classical frameset proposed by the Italian handcrafter. Officina means "workshop", and this is where all those Italian steel frames are handmade from Columbus Italian steel tubes. The brand is named after its owner names Giovanni BATTAGLIN, who is the second racer in history to have achieved the Giro-Vuelta double in 1981 (1973 Eddy MERCKX, 1981 Giovanni BATTAGLIN, 2008 Alberto CONTADOR).

MAROSTICANA and BASSANESE are lugged frameset with a classic look but they do not intend to be age-old. They meant to be built either with vintage or modern components. Built around 410mm short chainstay, their geometry is the same as the one used for building the bikes for the professionals of the 80s and 90s endorsed by Battaglin (Stephen Roche, Roberto Visentini...). At the time, the Battaglin steel bikes were made to take part in the Grand-Tours and in all the most important professional competitions, so the short rear triangle ensured the bike is reactive for sprinting.

Both are made of Columbus SL thin steel tubes, that is very similar to the legendary Columbus SLX, and they are what we call "lugged frame". Lugged construction represents the Italian framebuilding tradition. Steel frame built with lugs are intend to be the most comfortable ones. The lug by itself increase the surface of the joint, where higher stresses are, so the frame can damp vibration more efficiently. The work of preparation that goes into the tubing before brazing the frameset, like making sure there is no space for the tubes to move, is as important as brazing proficiently.

Frames, designed for 1" front fork, are delivered with a lugged fork made of columbus steel handmade by Officina Battaglin. The bottom bracket (English type) is BSA / BSC type 68mm threaded. Officina Battaglin MAROSTICANA & BASSANESE, even if they feature a classical geometry and can be set up with vintage components depending your preferences, are not designed to ride L'Eroica because of the  internally routed rear cable.

What are the characteristic that keep the MAROSTICANA and the BASSANESE different from each other ?
The BASSANESE is proposed in two-colour with a cataphoresis treatment to prevent rust, this Officina Battaglin classic steel frame is available in 9 sizes (48 - 64 by 2cm).
On its side, the MAROSTICANA, available in 2 "finishing touches", receives a chrome-plating finish and is available in a wider sizing options : 18 (47 - 64 by 1cm)
Note that if you want to ride a bespoke MAROSTICANA or BASSANESE, it is possible to require custom geometry or custom paint schemes. An upcharge is required depending on the level of customization.

Officina Battaglin MAROSTICANA SPECS – Starting € 2.090 standart size

Marosticana is the classic Officina Battaglin steel frame which comes with a chrome-plated finish. It bears the name of the road that crosses the verdant plains at the base of the Venetian foothills and runs through the medieval town of Marostica, where the adventure of Giovanni Battaglin both as a professional rider and an entrepreneur began.

Chrome plating, used on the MAROSTICANA, is a labor intensive treatment, which improves the durability of the frameset. All Officina Battaglin chrome plating finishes are made entirely by hand: after removing all dirt and impurities residual from the brazing process, the entire frameset is immersed into a chrome bath. The chrome applies both to the internal and external surfaces of the frameset. In the final stage, the craftsmen polish all lugs and the right chainstay to a high sheen. It requires 19 different baths and 19 different craftsmen for a thick layer of chrome to deposit on the steel frameset so that it’s protected from rust both internally and externally in the years to come. A real elixir of life for the Marosticana frameset.
