SURLY LONG HAUL TRUCKER - named also LTH - could be resume in a line : it carries your and your luggage on very long distance, world tour approved ? Launched in 1998, SURLY wish is part of the huge QBP group, is mostly well-known  for its bike messenger and strong link with the single-speed culture, being a major support to established the SingleSpeed World Championship. Since 2005 they are really implemented in the Fat BIKE market, year when they started to mass product Fat Bikes. Their range is strong of Fat Bikes, Touring bikes, Pavement Bikes, Mountain Bikes and Cargo Bikes all made of steel tubes.

The SURLY LONG HAUL TRUCKER does not escape to this rule, it is built from Cromo4130 designed to Surly specifications in Taiwan for the LTH.

SURLY propose the LONG HAUL TRUCKER as a complete bike or frameset (Frame+fork) within 2 wheels sizes 26inch or 700c. Frame sizes are from 42 to 64 if you chosse the 26inch LTH, and from 56 to 64cm if your preference goes for 700c with the right body size. The geometry gives the preference to stability which is an important point when you are carrying front and rear loads even at low speed. It is also designed to keep the front wheel stuck on the tarmac if you have to fight with high percentage.
Whatever your preferences about 26inch or 700c, the geometry is mostly the same on the big lines. Chainstays are long with 460mm that of course bring comfort but also increase the wheelbase and so on for the stability. The bottom bracket drop is very low (48cm on the 26", and 78cm on the 700c) to lower the centre of gravity and to maximise the stability but be careful with the risk of pedal strike : it is clear that the SURLY LONG HAUL TRUCKER  is a road orientated touring bike.
The headtube has a slacker angle, more effort to steer it, but definitively necessary on the LTH as it is designed to carry weight and a slower steering also improve the stability.

As said, this is not a racing machine and it is precisely written on the top tube : "Trucker" ...so no one expect from you to intend a sprint at the end of your touring. It is designed to be loaded, not to be the lightest bike but built to last within the years at your service and maybe replace most of your bikes.  In this "made to last" idea, tubes have thicker wall and larger diameter than usual road and touring bikes, those steel tubes could perfectly fit on cargo bike that are designed to be heavily loaded.
Born to ride all over the world loaded with your personal and kitchen utensil, there are multiple threaded braze on the frame to fix almost everything : front and rear fenders, strong racks, water bottle cages (up to 3)...it is up to what you need to bring with you.

Made of steel, the SURLY LONG HAUL TRUCKER has strong arguments to be a very good bike for long touring : simple components, easy to repair and durable. Classic cantilever, shifter are the very simple Microshift BS-M10 with friction (compatible with Shimano). The bottom bracket and the crankset have a square taper interface, wheels are equipped with 36 spokes.
It maybe look too simple, not so modern ? But it has to be put in the context of a long distance touring / travel : square taper crankset or BB can be found everywhere, same for rim pad and brakes cables...and it is more easy to find someone who can weld steel compare to repair aluminium, titanium or carbon.
