SINGLE BE, who has recently made our mouth water with the 29-inch mountain bike Queen Of Mountain, presents us here one of its latest built. This time it is not a complete bike but a frame kit dedicated to a very light Gravel practice - road and path ... suitable roads, this frame can also be used as 4-seasons bike with the right equipment.
The frame is entirely made of Dedacciai Zero Adamantis steel tubes. This set, manufactured in Italy, is no longer at the steelmaker's public catalog but only available on request. It is a set of tubes intended for road bikes - light gravel (for rough roads) like this Single BE Adamantis frameset. This steel has two characteristics, it combines both the rigidity on the front triangle with tubes of large diameter, and comfort with a rear triangle whose curved seatstays.
What immediately jumps to the eye is the imposing diameter of the down tube which provides enough rigidity guaranteeing the transmission of human effort to the machine. Its shape and diameter vary depending on whether it is at the junction of the headtube or the bottom bracket. In the idea, close to the headtube it approximately has the shape of a water drop varying from 39mm wide to 49mm high. At the level of the bottom it is rather a crushed octagon with rounded edges of 49 mm wide by 38mm high. This impressive Adamantis down tube is double butted with fine walls in 0.7-0.5-0.7 mm thickness.
Compared to it, the top tube although with a 35mm diameter appears small. It is also Double Butted with a thickness of 0.6mm from the headtube to reach 0.45mm in thickness continuously up to the seat tube. This characteristic is also a specificity of the series ADAMANTIS, because generally a Double Butted steel tube regains its initial thickness at the end of tube.
To end with the front triangle, the seat tube has a unique diameter of 35mm and allows to mount a seatpost of 27.2mm. Its thickness varies, with 0.85mm on a short length (10cm) starting from the bottom bracket, to become finer with 0.5mm. The bottom bracket is standard BSA 68mm - threaded and allows to mount a bottom bracket with external bearings like Shimano - or SRAM Truvativ GXP for the two most common.
At the rear, there is another feature of the Dedacciai Zero Adamantis series: curved seatstays. Their role, to absorb all the roughnesses of the road and path that you will travel on. But also, together with rear chainstays, restore the energy of your effort. In the continuity, the axis of the rear wheel is of Thru-Axle type 142x12mm. To slow down the machine, it is necessary to use a rotor of 160mm. Indeed, Tom designed this frame to be natively compatible with a rotor of this diameter, no need for adapter in this case.
The SINGLE BE ADAMANTIS is a perfect gravel bike to ride on dingy roads and rough path due to its low tire volume allowed but which will not prevent a good technician who dare to go beyond. Thus the space allocated to the rear tire is limited to a maximum of 70x33c and it is preferable to equip it with smaller tires around 28-30c if you plan to ride with mudguards in winter on the road. The frame is intended for this unmissable winter equipment, you can even mount a lightweight rear luggage carrier type TUBUS FLY.
A quick look at the geometry. The frame sizes aaround 55-56cm, the front triangle has a light slopping. The rear bases are "comfort-design" with 420mm long. The steering angle is not the most sharp, with 71.5 degrees it strengthens the stability of the bike.
Dual or single ? The frame allows both. Up to the rider to make the choice depending on its mood, the season..well in case of a double crankring then a front colar derailleur is requested. Cable stops are located behind the bottom bracket. Cables are routed internally from the down tube for the front dérailleur and the rear dérailleur.
The painting is entirely done by TOM, the manager of SINGLE BE, it is his passion. The work took him more than 10 hours. It required a lots of precision to perfectly align the various yellow traces and the many elements present on the headube, the top tube and at the front of the fork.
