SALSA CYCLES DEADWOOD 29+ is an XXL offroad touring ( 29+ drop bar steel mountain bike). It is just...huge !!! SALSA CYCLES is part of the group QBP (Quality Bicycle Products) that also owned, for the most known : SURLY, CIVIA, All City.....The brand is a synonym of adventure and the SALSA CYCLES DEADWOOD can take you far far away to a new playground. And if you plan to mount a front triangle framebag...you ll maybe never come back from what supposed to be your vacation !

SALSA CYCLES DEADWOOD 29+ is made of Cobra Kai Cromoly Tubeset (Cromo 4130 specificity engineered for Salsa). This set of tubes is used on SALSA bikes that are designed carry a big charge or needs stiffness like their tandem POWDERKED, the world touring bike MARRAKESH or this XXL DEADWOOD ! The frame is equipped with "Alternator drop-out" by SALSA, that allow to change the type of axle you want to set up : BOOST (native), 142x12, QR (maybe to light for this 29+) or Rohloff are sold separately.

Available since October 2015, the SALSA CYCLES DEADWOOD 29+ is the bigger and more mature brother of the SALSA FARGO. Where you were a bit slowing down with the FARGO...you just go straight into it with the DEADWOOD thanks to its 3" tires ! It is perfect for mud, sand and low rocky trail. For a fat bike it is quite fast and easy to handle in curves, it provides more grip / ground traction making you riding in confidence. Definitely a fun bike that won't make you stop smiling.

The bike is at the standard boost for the rear wheel spacing (148x12mm) and the crank. At least, the boost standard feets perfectly the DEADWOOD because you keep the same Q-factor of an usual bike but with 3" tires without sacrificing the geometry or forcing strange chainstay design to have it all work. BOOST standard make it definitely easier within 29+ design parameters.

The front fork is the Salsa Firstarter made of carbon, it is not boost ready (15x100). 3 packs bosses for extra carrying capacity that allow to have a better weight distribution. The carbon fork provides a good stearing and stiffness requested with those giant tires. If you really do not wish to see any carbon parts on this bike, the Firestart is available in steel, cromoly, but it is not an option, you have to bought it separately.

Groupset ? No, it is a nice mix of many brand : SRAM, KMC..., only the rear dérailleur (Type 2 Long Cage) is from the X9 giving the "name" to the SALSA CYCLES DEADWOOD X9. The crankset is a double, while some of us could prefer it in single for simplicity or afraid to break the front dérailleur, some of us keep it double when legs start burning in long climb. Brakes are the mechanical SRAM BB7 with 160mm rotors. They are the most mounted Disc brakes on adventure bikes, you are sure to have a good braking system with no risk of bleed in the middle of nowhere !

Available as a complete bike for 2599 Us Dollars (29.5lbs/13.6kgs)  or as a frame for 1099 US Dollars.
